Cub Scout Pack 208 – February Overview

Thanks for a great first half of the year. Many of you are helping me run the pack and it is my pleasure to serve as Cubmaster. If you are not doing anything to help the pack then I want you to consider finding a way to help. I am looking for a few folks to help with pine wood derby, Christian skit writing, and camp card fund raising. All I really need is a willing heart. Please let me know if that’s you.

Tomorrow is a pack meeting and is the last chance for you to signup for the Webelos campout at Tanah Keeta on February 5-7. Cost is $25/person. If you won’t be able to sign-up, you need to email me immediately. I few of you told me verbally that you wanted to go, but I wasn’t able to write it down. Please tell me again. I need each family going to sign up for buying food (Wed 3 5:30 Costco), Loading (Friday 3pm) or Unloading (Sunday after campout). We are still looking for a truck to pull the trailer. If you can pull our trailer (7000lbs) please let me know.

You should be working with your son on his Pine Wood derby car. Try to let him do as much as he can. You should install the wheels last (you want to paint and apply extra weight first). We will begin weighing the cars tomorrow.

There will be a Parent and Leaders meeting on Tuesday February 9th at 7pm in the Cafeteria. Please plan to attend.

Next Family campout is February 19-21 at Markham Park. Sign-ups will begin on February 4th and end of February 11th. The cost will be $20/person.

The Pack pine wood derby will be on Saturday February 27 in the Gym. Setup will begin at 7:30 and the start times for the races will depend on the rank. I will send a complete schedule soon.

Merry Christmas – Cub Scouts Events on Thursday December 10th

Good job everyone on getting your wreaths tonight. We were done by 7:30pm which is the fastest that we have ever finished.

There are two Christmas activites next Thursday the 10th.

Our pack has been invited to be a part of the Christmas Parade at John Knox Village again this year. Anyone interested should be there at 4pm for the parade that starts at 4:30pm and will take about an hour. Mike Miller will be coordinating this event, his cell is 954-557-7274. Please wear your class A uniform. So far only one family has confirmed that they are going. The pack has a banner for parades but we need more then one scout to carry it. Please let me know if you are planning to attend.

Directions from the church – go East on Cypress Creek road 2.6 miles and turn left on Dixie Hwy travel 1.3 miles and turn left on SW 6st then take the first right into John Knox village. Tell the gaurd that you are there for the parade and ask him/her where to park. I believe we are suppose to park on the grass.

Address is 651 SW 6th St, Pompano Beach, FL 33060

The other event is our annual Cub Scout Pizza Party at 7pm in the Cafeteria. We will have pizza, soda, lemonade and cookies.

Bring wrapping paper, ornaments and lights to decorate your den leader.

Have a great Christmas! Our next meeting will be January 7th.

November Update

November Update

Thanks for everyone that helped the pack by selling Christmas wreaths. Please remember to keep the white envelope as you will need it to know what items to pick-up on December 3rd and who to deliver them to. If you can’t make the December 3rd meeting, it is your responsibility to have a friend in the pack get your items. There will be over 1000 items in a large truck and there is no practical way to store these items for you.

Webelos – you will need to buy a mess kit for your boy for the Webelos campout Novemeber 13 &14. We are going to be short on pack tents for the webelos. If you are planning to buy a small tent for your son now is the time. I am planning to buy a tent at Walmart for $29. Please let me know if you are able to bring an extra tent to the campout. If possible, leave your large tents at home as we will be tight on space.

2009 Extreme Games at Landshark Stadium Friday night December 4th and all day Saturday 5th
This is one of the premier events that South Florida Council hosts every year and since this is the kickoff for the 100th Anniversary Year of Scouting it is an event that you do not want to miss.

Attached is the Extreme Games Flyer and there are some great pictures from last year here http://www.sfcbsa.org/Programs/ScoutExtremeGames/tabid/197/Default.aspx . What is the cost and what do you get? If you register before November 20th (Early Bird Date), the Sleepover is $20.00 per person, children four and under are free. The fee goes up after November 20th. If you register for the Sleepover, you will have a Pollo-Tropical Meal for dinner, see a fantastic Fireworks Display, and watch a movie on the Jumbo Screen at the Stadium. You will sleep under the stars. When you get up Saturday morning you can purchase breakfast from Mama Jennies for a minimal price and then have six hours of great scout activities, including tons of snow, climbing towers, giant slides, helicopter displays, great booths and stage shows. If you plan on coming out just for the day on Saturday, December 5th, the cost is $15.00 and children under four are free.

I am planning to enjoy this event with my family and hope you will join me. I understand that this can get expensive so participation will be a personal decision. The pack will not be providing food so you will be on your own for meals. South Florida Council has made a special effort to hire affordable vendors so its a personal choice to buy or bring food. You can register online at the link above. I would like our pack to host a booth. I have a simple game in mind but need volunteers to staff the both for 1/2 hour or 1 hour time slots. Let me know if you have questions or if you plan to attend.
